The pandemic has created many feelings of uncertainty in our teenagers. Our Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Anxiety Specialist, Jenny Lehman, encourages teens and young adults that this will soon pass. She encourages viewers to look at every situation as a lesson and ask themselves what they can learn from this situation. D’Arienzo Psychology is seeing a significant uptick in new mental health referrals at our practice which began when Governor DeSantis opened up Florida for Phase 1 in mid-April. Marriages are stressed, divorced parents have been fighting about visitation and the potential impact of COVID-19 and whether the other parent’s visitation is essential (the answer is, YES). Parents have had to balance homeschooling, work, and children with cabin fever, and single people have never been more isolated (dating has virtually stopped). People are worried about their jobs, paying bills, and their businesses.
As active shooter drills increase in schools, we cannot help but ask how our children are being impacted by these drills. First Coast News interviewed Dr. D’Arienzo concerning how these drills might affect our children. Dr. D’Arienzo discusses the benefits of these active shooter drills and how we can be there for our children that might experience anxiety from them.
